Aiyana Bio
With a colourful mix of impassioned gypsy heart and love of home, Aiyana has travelled, lived and played in many countries and cultures. Affectionately called the ‘adopted daughter of Latin America’, the stories and connections within her growing family and with people in communities and on the road have fuelled her passion for life and music.
Building on this multicultural musical history and her folk roots, Aiyana has merged genres: Alternative Folk/World. She transitions through complex fingerpicking and aggressive rhythmic variations, integrating alternative tunings and time signatures, with lyrics that range from key topical issues through to soul-searching explorations. Wherever her song takes you, it is always a journey of the heart.

Aiyana was co-creator of ‘Tabula Raza’, a high-energy Latino-Caribbean fusion band with uplifting and socially conscious lyrics; and of the more instrumental and experimental acoustic guitar duo ‘Inlakesh’, embracing multi-media collaborative experiences. Tabula Raza was one of 451 Spanish language artists and bands that formed part of Manu Chao’s online ‘Radio Chango’ family for 12 years until the site discontinued in 2018.
An unconventional path, Aiyana’s musical journey has often been at the roots level, forming direct, palpable connections. Cooking with fire, walking the earth, swimming in lakes, rivers and oceans with coastal and mountain airs, the journey, places and people have spun their way into her heart, song and soul, opening a growing awareness of our interconnectedness and spiritual bond to each other, our mother earth and the cosmos.

Aiyana commenced as a soloist while living in Brazil. Her audio-visual-sensorial productions with poignantly personal songs in English, Spanish and Portuguese were praised for their great sensitivity, artistic mastery and creation of space, with many moved through a journey of tears and laughter.
Now back in her land of origin, Australia, Aiyana has another chapter of creations and growth to share. She is also having fun exploring composition ideas on the piano, taking her back to her first childhood instrument! Watch this space for new songs, coming soon!
Aiyana also shares her love of Latin American folk and popular music in 'Aiyana en Español', presenting a cross-section of music from across South and Central America.
